New track names

Here is the list of the new track names I'll be using in the digipak.  I have changed these track names to avoid copyright of Jaden Smith's originals, but have shown how I came up with the new ones by carefully changing them.

Undeclared for instance is the name of the album which as I explained before means 'not publicly announced, admitted or acknowledged' which is used partly in irony as Jaden Smith is so popular and well known, but also because a lot of teenagers feel unacknowledged and could relate to this, especially people of colour who are an ethnic minority group who are the target audience.  I initially thought of this name when I saw his original song name 'Young & Reckless' because that is a stigma and stereotype for a lot of black children who protest black lives matter, when in actual fact, we're just trying to get equality.

I changed 'Lost Boy' to Lonely Boy as I thought about all the children who's parents or siblings have been killed because of police brutality, 'Ninety' to Nineteen as that is Jaden Smith's current age at the date of album release and 'Fallen' to Rise to mark this album as a rise for everyone in the black community

Album Name Planning

When trying to find an album name for Jaden Smith, I looked at his original songs and MSFTS caught my eye, so I thought about calling it 'Misfits' but this is already a well known TV series in the UK about juvenile offenders and thought this would not only paint Jaden Smith in a bad light, but also the black community because the stereotype of young black men especially is that they're just looking for trouble and are no good.

I wanted something that not only described him, but his fans too to make them feel connected to him as an artist.

After brainstorming and thinking, I came up with the name 'Undeclared'
Jaden Smith is obviously very famous and is publicly acknowledge, but in the song scarface, he raps about wanting to make the pain and fame go away so I thought this was fitting
Also, there are a lot of victims to police brutality and racism who are not publicly announced, admitted, or acknowledged.  There is a campaign for this called #SayTheirNames which asks people to be active on social media and to talk about the injustice of these people.

Digipak Flatplan

Please click on the photo below to see a bigger version of the digipak flatplan

I've decided to have the front, back and inside right 2 as individual images as they will be seen separately, but I want to have the inside left 1, inside middle and inside right 2 as one image as it will be seen as a whole.  I think I want this to be buildings/ a city scape, something rough and edgy to match the codes and conventions seen in hip-hop and rap digipaks.

Hot Desking Feedback

I held a hot desking session specifically to get feedback from my peers who understand media language and the codes and conventions of a music video.

Strengths:

Shots are in focus
Mis-en-scene reflects genre and artist
Good use of camera movement, which is contrasted by the still shots towards the end to create drama
Sub-genre of police brutality clear - especially towards the end
"Really home hitting and good"
High quality first draft

Areas for improvement:

Some shots have been over-edited and slowed down too much
Refine the quality of some of the shots

Review

Overall, I'm really pleased with the feedback, a lot of it was positive, and the negative comments were constructive and advised me on how I can improve.
Going on from this, I will organise a re-shoot of some of the shots, and refine my editing to make sure that the shots I slowed down aren't too jumpy or of low quality
